Dardin's Pit

The Silver Mines of Sosaria are one of the oldest mines throughout all the land, second only to the fabled Mines of Morinia. Now over three centuries old, the ol’mines are abandoned as the last of the silver deposits were extracted over 100 years ago. All that remains is an empty cavern and a few man made rooms that served as offices, a messhall and various mining related store rooms and equipment areas. These forgotten mines were later named after a dwarf who spent most of his life within these earthen walls. The mines though useless were renamed to Dardin’s Pit in honor of the dwarf who tried to build an underground city for the miners who worked above.

Dardin was a miner who worked within the Silver Mines north of Castle Sosaria. Dardin somehow came into a large sum of gold and decided to retire from mining, and from the surface world as a whole for that matter. Dardin spent his new found wealth and built Dardin’s Pit below the Silver Mines. Dardin’s Pit is not a pit in the sense of a cavernous hole in the ground. The Pit was a underground fortress that was designed as living quarters for the miners above. Many miners took to Dardin’s Pit and lived there throughout the work week only to return to their homes on the weekends. Dardin built the town for his fellow miners and to satisfy his urge to govern the masses. Dardin’s Pit was a very pricey effort draining him of all his wealth. Dardin’s happieness was short lived though. A year or two after Dardin’s Pit was completed the Silver Mines above ran dry and the miners all left for work elsewhere in the realm. Dardin became distraught and took to drinking. Pennyless and depressed Dardin spent the rest of his days alone drinking his sorrows away in his beloved Pit. After his death it wasn’t long before the denizens of Sosaria took to his creation and formed their own homes and lairs within its forgotten halls.!
