One of the most foreboding dungeons located in Sosaria is known as The Fires of Hell. As adventurers first approach they are greeted with twin lavafalls and lakes of fire that form along side the entrance to the dungeon. Little is known of the origins of The Fires of Hell, but it is said that a powerful beast created its lair deep within the depths of the earth, very close to the molten core of the planet. The top level of the dungeon is made of natural cavern. Only a few have ever claimed to venture below the first levels and live to tell the tale. Those who have escaped from the lower levels speak of a long lost fortress beneath the mountains. Somehow this fortress became known throughout the history books as the Fortress Pyre. No one is sure how that name came to be. Is it the actual name of the mysterious fortress or just a name some adventurer gave it due to its location beneath the Fires of Hell? Perhaps we may never know.     By those who have claimed to venture within its halls they claim to have found manuscripts that describe what the fortress was for and who created it. It is said that from the very disturbed minds of dastardly wizards came birth of the underground fortress. Set deep within the bowels of the earth this fortress was used by these outcast sorcerors as a means to conduct their experiments. The wizards believed that creating a great laboratory closer to the firey hells of Sosaria’s core, would grant them the ability to harness greater magic and summon greater demons. According to a diary supposedly excavated from the fortress these summonings are what led to the sorcerors ultimate demise. What is left is a evil and retched set of ruins that house some of the most powerful denizens known to the citizens of Sosaria!
