The Perinian Depths were nothing more than a large natural cavern set in the mountains to the northeast of Castle Sosaria. One day a large quake rocked the nearbye lands, and every so often smaller tremmors could be felt as far as the town of Yew. Many years passed and then again a massive tremmor tore the northeastern quarter of the continent. Lord British had his seers use their magic to determine the source of the tremmors. One seer determined that the source of the quakes emanated from within the mountains towards the northeast. Lord British sat pondering the situation. It occured to him that the only area of geographical significance was the Caverns of Perinia. Lord British assembled a group of adventurers to explore the caverns and see if they could determine the source of the disturbances. After two months and no word from the adventurers, Lord British became worried. The very next day a ragged soul came stumbling into the castle. Lord British immediately recognised him as one of the adventurers he sent out months ago. The man spoke of evil creatures such as orcs, trolls, and a large complex built within the belly of the mountains. The man then perished at the Lord’s feet! Disturbed by the news British summoned a small army to investigate and vanquish any foul beasts found within the caverns. The army came back a short month later and reported success. The beasts were either slain or driven off. There were no indications of what caused the tremmors or who built the complex within the caverns. Alas that may be something none of us ever know!     While the forces of good did indeed vanquish the hoardes that resided in the upper levels of the Caverns of Perinia, none detected the passage that led further into the depths of Sosaria. Had the armies of the King searched harder they would have discovered that the battle was only half won and the hardest part lay far below their feet in the fortress known as Quortor’s Keep. Quortor was a savage warlord who ruled some of the outlying lands off the main continent of Sosaria. Many years ago Lord British revoked Quortor’s leadership status and took the lands that Quortor controlled. Word reached British of the injustices that Quortor was commiting to his citizens and Lord British would have none of it. He ousted Quortor and his minions and set the outter lands free from tyranny. Little does Lord British know Quortor plots revenge and is quite litterally under his nose!
